INDIA: 4 Arrested With Gold Bars Hidden In Nappies At Indira Gandhi International Airport

Gold bars weighing 16kg, and worth Rs42.8 million, allegedly hidden in baby diapers were seized and four people were arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport here after a group of fliers coming from Dubai were intercepted by security agencies on Monday.

Officials said the recovery was made around 7am when a group of six passengers (including two infants) arrived here from Dubai and were intercepted for a thorough check after they crossed the green channel.

"Gold biscuits weighing about 16kg have been recovered from the passengers. The 16 gold biscuits, of 1kg each, were found cleverly concealed in the diapers and towel of the two babies they were carrying.

"The two groups comprising a couple and a baby each are from Surat," they said.

"The seized gold bars has been valued at Rs42.8 million. The four people have been arrested by Customs authorities," they added.
