ZIMBABWE: Miss Tourism, Childline Go Into Partnership

AS preparations for the highly-publicised Miss Tourism Zimbabwe (MTZ) pageant set for Friday at the Harare International Conference gather momentum, the organisers yesterday signed another partnership deal with Childline Zimbabwe in Harare.

Pageant spokesperson, Alson Darikayi yesterday said the partnership will see the two parties fundraise for expanded access to counselling and therapeutic support services for adolescent girls and young women in the country.

“We are happy with some partners who have come on board to support the girl child in line with our patron Barbra Mzembi’s vision of uplifting the girl child in Zimbabwe through pageantry,” he said.

“This latest partnership will see the two organisations working together to increase access to opportunities and support services as well as collaborating in awareness campaigns.”

Darikayi said Childline will help the pageant to develop a child protection policy that would safeguard young women, who are connected to the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe Trust.

He said preparations for the event were progressing smoothly, with some delegates expected in the country on tomorrow.
“Some of our guests are already in the country, with German princess-cum-philanthropist, Corinna Zu Sayn Wittgenstein, a woman empowerment advocate, jetting in on Thursday (tomorrow) for the pageant that will also be graced by Tourism ministers and other princesses from across the globe,” Darikayi said.

He said a fundraising dinner, dubbed The Business Ball, is on tomorrow at Rainbow Towers, with proceeds from the event that is expected to raise about $50 000, being channelled towards school and exam fees and sanitary wear for underprivileged girls.

Music superstar, Oliver Mtukudzi and Dudu Manhenga will provide entertainment to the patrons at the fundraising dinner.

Apart from the modelling extravaganza on Friday, guests will be entertained by a star-studded line-up of performers headlined by South Africa’s Dr Malinga, and Busiswa, alongside Selmor Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Shinsoman and Ammara Brown.

First Lady Grace Mugabe will be the guest of honour at the event to be held under the theme Beauty Abov
