First Cargo Plane For Amazon Prime

As previously reported last December, Amazon.com, Inc. has showcased its first branded Boeing 767-300 freighter.

The aircraft, named Amazon One, (N1997A • MSN 27310 • LN 545) is the first of 40 freighters that Amazon has agreed to lease through air cargo partners Atlas Air and Air Transport Services Group (ATSG).

The company already operates a fleet of 10 767s, flying out of its air hub in Wilmington, Ohio.

“Creating an air transportation network is expanding our capacity to ensure great delivery speeds for our Prime members for years to come,” said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations.

The tail of the jetliner sports the distinctive smile logo, with “Prime Air” titles printed along the fuselage.

Amazon Prime is a membership program that gives customers a two-day, no-charge shipping, as well as unlimited access to multimedia content and other services.

Amazon will showcase the jetliner today during the Seafair’s Air Show, an annual community celebration taking place in Seattle, hometown of the e-commerce giant.

They will fly over Lake Washington on Friday through Sunday, from 13:15 to 13:30 local, just before the Blue Angels display.

“I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate the inaugural flight than in our hometown at Seafair alongside Amazon employees and Seattle residents,” Clark said.
